| Mei Lin Meyers (he/they) (b. 2002 Dharug Land) is a Neurodivergent, Chronically ill, Queer, Trans and Chinese-Anglo artist who lives on unceded Wangal Land. His playful practice merges sculpture, painting, drawing and writing. Mei Lin loves to attend to the strange connections between things, the hidden worlds shared between lemons, eggs, and piles of objects. Mei Lin makes and writes as a way to try and better understand their experiences of disorientation, racial trauma, Long-Covid and being an Autistic and ADHD guy in a hella spiky environment. Mei Lin draws upon Queer and Crip Theory, Critical Whiteness Studies and is a massive stan for the scholar Sara Ahmed. Mei Lin is currently wrapping up his Honours in Bachelor of Fine Arts (Studio). @mei_yers https://mei-lin-meyers.com.au/ |
Cleaning my Car is an experimental text which explores inheritance and objects through a Disability Justice framework. By linking cleaning and writing, this text provides a close reading of Sara Ahmed's chapter 'The Orient and Others' from Queer Phenomenology (2006). This creative research and reflective practice, moves between memories, theory, and Mei Lin's 'To Do List'.
