"Men and Their Mothers" is biographical in its whole spirit, about a real relationship I had. But the elements I used to stitch together the story are not always factual. The jagged, patchwork style of straightforward memoiristic writing and things I imagined, collections of data, things that happened to other people I heard about on the news are represent fractures in how the subject of the piece thought about his mother, and how we all think about our mothers.
