Kudos acknowledges and pays respect to the Gadigal and Bidjigal people of the Eora nation. They are the traditional custodians of the land Kudos Online operates on. We create, design, share, and exchange our work and knowledge on this important meeting place. We pay our respects to elders past and present and extend that respect to any First Nations people who visit Kudos Online. This is and always will be Aboriginal land.

AboutShopResources
Josh Di Mattina-Beven
Joshua is an artist and curator working on unceded Gadigal and Bidgigal land. Their performance practice cruises public space in search of new subjectivities. Their body is an interface of engagement – with people, objects, memory and desire. They use sculptural practice and choreography to negotiate and entangle these positions. Interested in the economy of desire, Joshua investigates the way intimacy can either uphold or pervert capitalist modes of production. Leisure, failure and play become crucial methods for their perversive practice. Joshua can always be found collaborating, whether that be with other artists or found material. They act as an interlocutor between object and subject, finding joy in the unexpected encounters between them.

Tussle
Joshua Di Mattina-Beven, Tussle, 2024, 8 Person Ensemble Performance
‘TUSSLE’ is a 1 hour durational performance derived from ‘wrestle club’ – an evolving group of artists and non-performers who meet to scuffle, fight and work it out. The group is led by Joshua Di Mattina-Beven.

On the outer edges of pointlessness, we circle each other toward mutual transformation. We cruise the gallery for new relations, new modes of engagement, new ways of meaning to each other. A hug slips into a fall. An embrace becomes something more. ‘TUSSLE’ is a fight of trust, a trust that extends from us to our audience. Our brawl is not rehearsed but rather made anew in the heat of our strife. We leave, to meet again.

Tussle is performed by Astrid Bell, Alice Knight, Bonnie Huang, Joshua Di Mattina-Beven, Jy Martin, Laura Luciana, Mym Kwa, Nikau Davis, Oliver Durbidge, and Tom McManus. Photographed by Seamus Byrne. Filmed by Brynn Alysia and Liam Mccombie.
